The very smart people at Harvard don’t seem to remember that the Supreme Court has already told them that discriminating on the basis of race is unconstitutional and yet they have promised to continue to do so. I hope the Feds drop the hammer on them.

By the looks of it they are. Columbia has caved already, as they should, for the rest we'll see. I think the impact of the accreditation EO is going to be exciting.

I love me some Groucho!

In spite of all the rhetoric, isn’t this just about keeping the gravy train rolling? How much does Harvard pay its administration, or its fund managers? If they had to pay with their own money it’d be a different story.

Yes, you're correct. This is all about higher ed wanting to maintain their funding. And as far as Harvard's payouts, we know that Claudine Gay is still employed by Harvard to the tune of almost 1M per year.

I've been listening to the Case Against Education, and in terms of ROI... all of this is such a bad deal.

If we’re going to fund higher education with tax dollars, I’d rather see vocational schools be first in line. Try finding a carpenter or plumber these days!

No kidding. I have several things around my house that I'm just praying don't break.

I gotta say though, the more I dig, the more I think we need to dismantle our educational systems and start from scratch. And the real tragedy is that developing countries, who out of necessity are building these structures on a shoestring for their populations, are doing so with the benefit of all the research that details how our system is ineffective at actually educating.

But we can't do that here because politically it's not possible without the masses demanding it.

I have a niece who’s a sophomore in HS. She’s in AP English. They don’t read books. They are given research materials for their papers and are not allowed to do their own research beyond what is provided.

Have you read _The Case Against Education_? I highly recommend it. The book makes some very strong points about how school, as currently practiced in the US, amounts to a long personality test of which students are the most conscientious and conformist. It's tragic. And while I haven't looked into the sources they use to base their case, their argument is strong.

I haven’t read it, but from personal experience I know they punish the ones who ask questions. The only question they allow is, “Is this gonna be on the test?”
