You've written about the myriad issues with CACREP and the overarching iron fist it hides in a velvet glove. Another organization that, IMHO, is 'captured' (or is the captor which....) is NBCC which has its own mechanism for reciprocity for members.

I have looked into NBCC, and I agree, it is part of the captured club. I have considered writing about it, but prior to the counseling compact, it was more of a support player. With the Compact, it is poised to become a major money maker.

I have held off going into more detail, though, because I noticed that the Compact's website has changed since I first reported on them, and it doesn't clearly state that the NBCC cert is required. If you have additional information on that, I'd love to hear it. Especially if I'm missing something here, but it seems to me NBCC's relevance is tied up in whether it is required by the compact or not, thus whether people working under the compact are subject to the NBCC's Code of Ethics.

The National Counselor Exam, authored by the folks at NBCC, can be taken in lieu of the state exam in (CO for sure but others I expect) and NBCC touted multi-state licensure reciprocity based on taking the NCE. This, btw, was in 1995, so I expect a lot has changed. I suspect that NBCC and CACREP are probably bedfellows, but cannot give you proof.

Also, renewing the NCC credential requires attestation to NBCC code of ethics.

Oh, they are bedfellows. You can see the connections through Chi Sigma Iota. I'll keep looking into the connections. If I can find more documentation, I'll write about it. My challenge is that right now, I'm working on my own, so I have to pace my efforts.
